Hiring a staffing service is a decision that should not be made lightly. The recruiters and account management team should be able to help you throughout the hiring process and make your company successful. How do you know you’ve chosen the best service to meet your needs? Here are a few questions to ask before making a decision.
Do you have experience recruiting in my industry? Many staffing services specialize in different industries. You may wish to talk with one that staffs primarily for information technology, engineering, manufacturing, sales, or administrative support. Analyze your needs to see which company will provide the best service for you.
What is your rate of client satisfaction? Will the staffing service provide reference information from other satisfied clients? Have they conducted satisfaction surveys? How is satisfaction measured and what does that mean for the scores they provide?
How long have your recruiters been working with you? How much experience do they have in recruiting? For a while in the late 90s staffing was booming. Many companies hired recent college grads and trained them as recruiters. Some of them eventually left to pursue other opportunities while others stayed in the industry. Look at how long the recruiters have been with the company or if there is frequent turnover.
How do your temporary employees rate your service? Much like determining client satisfaction, most staffing companies will also survey their temporary employees from time to time. A good company will take action to correct any dissatisfaction on the part of good employees. Find out how this is measured and what their score really means.
What current recruiting issues are impacting hiring now? You want to work with a company who understands trends in human resources, laws that impact hiring, and the way the economy affects business. You want to make sure they are knowledgeable and can pass this information on to you when you need it most.
How competitive are your rates? The cheapest doesn’t always mean the best. Compare several staffing services in your area and see how their rates compare. Measure this along with the client and employee satisfaction. You may be willing to spend slightly more to work with a company who has a strong track record.
What do you expect from me? You want to know what your role in the hiring process will be. Good managers won’t take a back seat. Find out about facility visits, the interviewing process, and how they would like to receive feedback from you once someone is on the job.
